What is a chronic illness?

A chronic illness is a health condition or disease that is persistent or otherwise long-lasting in its effects or a disease that comes with time. Usually deemed chronic if illness persists longer than three months. Some common chronic illnesses in children are cancer, diabetes, sickle cell anemia, and congenital heart problems.

What is a disability?

A disability is a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities. Chronic illnesses can later lead to devastating disabilities in a child; it could be physical or mental disabilities. The most common disabilities in children are epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and down syndrome.

What is trauma?

Trauma is a severe bodily injury from physical violence, an accident, or an experience that causes severe anxiety or emotional distress. The most common types of trauma in children are motor vehicle accidents, gun violence,  and child abuse.
